East Kilbride Development Trust

Local Empowerment For Sustainable Living

Welcome

We are a voluntary group that brings together like minded folk who are concerned about issues such as climate change, food security, energy supply and the loss of green space and community assets.

Our main focus is about helping people to grow their own food.

It is very popular but not many of us have the ideal garden or know what to do!

The ingredients for a plan!

South Lanarkshire Council has given us space at Calderglen Country Park.

The National Trust for Scotland has given us space at the National Museum of Rural Life.

We have also been successful with a grant application to the climate challenge fund for resources and equipment.

Many thanks to them as this has enabled us to develop projects at both sites and form partnerships with South Lanarkshire College and a number of schools.

If you would like to know more then why not get in touch.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Fruitful Start To Spring With Community Orchards

With spring definitely in the air this week, the first EK Development Trust school and community mini-orchards have been planted. Our Lady of Lourdes Primary School children planted out their fruit trees last week and neighbours in Calderwood got together at the weekend to dig in their eight apple, pear and plum trees.

Now the EK Development Trust is inviting other schools or community groups in the town to take up the offer of a free mini-orchard to plant out. Funded by the Climate Challenge Fund, the group have another 9 mini-orchards packs to give away. These include four apple trees, two pear trees and two plums trees as well as stakes, labels, ties, compost and instructions. If your group are interested then please use our Contact Form to get in touch. Please note it is first come first served.

Meanwhile, with the growing season starting, there are many enjoyable volunteering opportunities available with East Kilbride Development Trust at their demonstration plots. Explore the web site for more information or come along to our stall (with free seeds!) at the upcoming Live and Learn event at the Ballerup Hall on 30th March.
